Earlier today I checked my L. Niger colony, to find that the males have emerged in my colony. There may also be queens but haven't yet seen any. Should I open it outside for a few minutes or just leave them inside?

Personally, I'd try and time it so the lid is open when there's a wild flight going on. Otherwise I'm not sure that they'd want to leave, since there would be no point in their doing so.
