Finally, I have managed to capture the moment that my Lasius Niger Alates take flight. This is the third such flight in 5 weeks. This flight is totally female, the previous two being males only. Strangely enough the Lasius Flavus and Myrmica Rubra also had Alate flights in my area and you will see a new Myrmica Rubra Queen running the gauntlet of Niger workers. I did not notice this until video playback. Enjoy.

Great that you were around to capture the flight, as so often I used to be at work when the activity started. Must be a very rewarding film Lee for you to watch having released these in your garden
