M.Rubra and.....surprising me...L.fulignosus

hi all today I've been out and about also!

I have pics but will post them down further..first of all

M.rubra
I am really lucky to find some M.Rubra nests about a 2minute bike ride and hopefully will catch some queens during the flights if they are a big enough colony!

L.fulignosus
I'm really surprised to find this colony and is about a couple minutes car travel away, they seem to like oak trees, but HUGE colonies here all around the stump of the tree!, please can people give me info on them because I might be selling them in the summer and need to know about them e.g rareness price etc.

hehe thanks wood do you know anything about L.Fuliginosus? e.g flight times and how rare in britain I've never seen these ants before I=only read about them in "Ants" by Gary J.Skinner and Geoffrey W.Allen very good book all about English ant species

Next to Lasius flavus and niger, fuliginosus are fairly common to many parts of East Anglia, the Midlands and southern counties of England.
They are less seen in the west, so you have had a good find there nest mate

Newly mated queens are usually found in July/August, but they usually start their colonies by becoming a temporary social parasite of Lasius umbratus, so it may prove very difficult to find them and begin your own colony
