Our Formica lusatica were caught moving cocooned pupae in their foraging tube this morning, and by the time I had grabbed my camcorder they had moved 70% of the pupae back into the nest.

do you think that they might be trying to warm them up in the sun?. Yes ordinarily I would, but there was no sunshine on the tubing today. I think it is just a drier place than inside the nest chambers

I've noticed that the ants will move to certain areas of their surroundings to regulate the humidity effects on the immatures.
