It must be all that chicken you've been feeding them on Shane, and I expect you threw the colony a bit of Xmas turkey or something? A nice Christmas present for you seeing all that brood, and your ants look a lovely russet red colour in the photo

A nice Christmas present for you seeing all that brood, and your ants look a lovely russet red colour in the photo Aye thanks I did give them a bit of turkey on xmas day, but for some reason they didn't take it in to nest, Just that workers was pulling it like a xmas cracker around foraging tank or pass the parcel think majors or medias will have got chunks off it in end to carry back to nest but there was hours . My brother got me a ant pod farm which I do not think will be suited to messors, But I'll give it a try with my nephews red head queen I got from you now last year She's doing well with 53 workers and moved her, Into her new home, But will have to keep population down to around 500, once queen gets going with laying eggs . most of workers are already checking out there new home as queen waits which was around 4pm on 25'th 12 2011 Messors only just fit in this set up and it seems to be true about ants been colour blind to red As it seems to not bother them having there nest in a red pod like its dark as night, as queen just roosting In middle, As I was watching them this morning in there new home now there moved in . The black queen didn't make it as she died in Nov 4th, May have been a little too cold as I was trying to her ready to hibenate in shed As workers was pulling her remains around when I checked on them on that day

Just room temp.
Last year I have them a little warmed up with a warm bottle of water at side, But this year I wanted them to hibernate.

I use too last winter, But I mosty just keep nest coverd up with a scarf or sock around bottom of nest and leave it. On old nest I used a cosy I made as it was a small nest set up, so easy to cover.

I'm amazed that they manage to feed every one of those larvae, even those at the bottom of the pile. ;D Very nice coloured queen as well.
