oh my god! how big is that soldier? it looks huge This is the description Ant Store have for this species Pheidologeton diversus (phdi0001) Taxonomy: Submailiy Myrmicinae, Tribe Pheidologetonini Origin: Indonesia Color: Workers: black, Soldiers: black and also brown Characteristics: strong polymorph, monogyn and also polygyn Nutrition: insects and seeds Hibernation: No Temperature: 25 - 30 °C Humidity: 50% - 60% at 28° C (moist ground) Soil conditions: loamy sand, loam Planting: not necessary Accessories: heat source Level: for advancer Specifics: very interesting ants because their predatory attacks like this of driver ants. They also apply fixed "highways" when the colony is great enough. The workers ride on their queens (for protection) and sometimes also on the soldiers. The difference of size between the workers and soldiers is the biggest of all ant species.
I imagine those 'soldiers' (majors) are very large judging by the smaller size of the minor workers

The majors are between 9-19mm and the minors 3-4mm they are an amazing species I once had a colony for a while didn’t survive unfortunately. One day when I have my own place I will invest in a colony and a good set-up they are the closest you will get to army ant in captivity

I read somewhere that this ant species can have more than 1 queen in a large colony, but Ant store sells them with 1 queen and about 100 workers. They look a great species if you can keep them though

They are a great species and you can keep them, just have to spend a bit of money on a set up. ant store used to sell them with 2 queens as I had a 2 queen colony, the other German ant shop still has 2 queen colonies I think. they grow large colony sizes about 50,000. I've heard Messors can get to a similar colony size though

Those ants are simply amazing, but I imagine that they'd be difficult to keep in the UK unless you had the right set up?

those are amazing I wish I lived in the UK so I could buy ant species.... I have to hunt through the mosquito infested forests to find a decent ant species... and all I can find are carpenter ants. How large is the queen of this species?? I would like to see a top angle of a soldier beside the queen it would look great.
