I thought I'd keep a journal on this years load of tadpoles in my pond... Read on if you're interested! 8th AprilWell, Today is the big Day! Every year at the end of February, a huge flock of frogs arrives in my fish pond, and every year, they leave us with a big ol' bucket load of spawn! And, every year, just as this spawn begins to hatch, I collect a tub full of tadpoles and keep them safe. The reason for me doing this is that my fish, far from seeing the tadpoles as cute, cuddly baby frogs, see them as a tasty snack, so the more I save, the better! So, onto today! I have filled an old washing up bowl with water from my pond, (I use this as it contains all the right things to keep baby tadpoles healthy) And I've added a large rock that used to stand in my fishtank, its full of hidey-holes, so is Ideal for the tadpoles to swim around, I have left it sticking out of the water, so that once they grow legs, they have somewhere to stand, I placed the whole lot into the greenhouse, and put the tadpoles in along with some of the Jelly which had surrounded them, this will be their food for the next few days, until they are capable of eating solid fish food. So far, they haven't done much, but remember, some haven't even fully hatched yet, and those who have have only been free of their gooey egg for an hour or so, so give them time, walk before you run and all that! I will update this when something interesting happens Nathan
