I have just returned from a trip out into our local hills. Imagine my surprise when, under a rock cuddled up with a small Myrmica rubra colony, I spotted a slow-worm I knew it wasn't a snake, and recognized it to be our little native legless lizard. It was a very pleasant surprise; but I didn't have a camera on me, so the little creature slithered away, more bothered by my disturbing it than of the hundreds of ants all around it ;D

Wow, I've never found a slow worm (My uncle Cliff used to keep one in a tank though).
I did once find a shrew however, I saw this whilst out hunting with Ned (some of you may remember Ned, he was once a member of the old anthill). We tipped a massive rock and found the little critter nestled underneath, it quickly woke up and bolted! I wasn't tempted to touch it though, shrews have the reputation of "Most vicious creature, pound for pound, on the planet!
Nathan ;D
