I put them in the set up on Tuesday and they all ran into the china man, and they are living in his head and arm. the china man is a pottery figure of a china man that I cut in half. I also made them a plaster nest that they had a look at but did not go in to live. I can see them moving from the head to the arm, but they still have not come out into the set up. they are a night time ant so I keep the light off in one half of the room and I've put a cover over them at night I think they just need some time to settle down. (post some pics soon)

well still no ants moving out side the nest. I put a mico cricket in the tank last night and it is still there. I can see them moving around in the nest, but not outside it. I think they are doing that thing that ants do when they are well fed, stay in. as I have no need to risk going out any way I'm going to keep an eye on them most of the night. I'm still covering the tank over at night so it's nice and dark for them and I'm only looking at them with a red filtered light.

I gave them lots of time to settle in and gave them a good feed, some water Mellon and half a chicken nugget. no interest in the mellon, but loved the chicken, they bit big bits off and took them into the nest. it took 3 days to make the lid ant proof, but some how one got out how I don't know. I did find one very small hole just about big enough to get a Lasius niger through and it has now been blocked. I found the run away trying to get into the Camponotus herculeanus tank, I tried to use the ant catcher but she was to quick and had to good a grip even on glass. I had to use a cup in the end. I must say the quickest ant I have ever seen, now I know why they have long legs.

Do you use a heat mat? Because I have a tank filled with sand/loam mix and they say this species can live in room temperature but the sand/loam feels cold do you think they will be ok?
