I was at wal-mart today, getting some food. I decided to pick up some fish for my snake, and even get a few feeder guppies for my beta to munch on. I noticed something unique, African Clawed Frogs, but these one's were good sized, unlike the albino ones which were pretty small. I asked the lady what they ate, she told me how they used to live with the smaller albino ones, until they started eating them. So me being one who loves animals who are aggressive like that, purchased one of these frogs thinking hmm, easy to care for just like the aqua babies frogs which are a bit (a lot) smaller! Get it home, put it in with some fish, its eaten 2 fish already, in 5 minutes of being in the aquarium. I eat dinner and I begin to do some research on the beast.
Well, after reading several sites I have found I need 10 Gallons per frog, as they get the size of your fist if not bigger. So thats fine, I have 3 10 gallon aquariums no big deal right? Well, now they need gravel, filter, and a place to hide. Ok, that I can eventually deal out, I'll clean some large rocks and buy a cheap filter, throw in some random thing for it to hide. I keep reading, finding out they are escape artists, I'm sitting here now, with it in a 1 gallon tank, 6 inches from me, with a large hole, great I can't wait until tommorow to move him..... So now I'm getting a wee bit annoyed, only to find out he needs treated tap water.. Yea ok, that I'm going to ignore. I've had countless fish and many smaller dwarf frogs and the water never mattered much to them.
Well, now I get the joy of Cleaning out the Fish tank (held a lizard), and filling it with water.. On the bright side he's healthy and is going to be a mean aggressive beast, just how I like them. Too bad I have to buy this retarded gravel (I'm considering skipping the gravel) and buy some overpriced fish filter pump thingy.
Ever get any pets your not quite ready to keep? Gosh, this is probably a first for me, least my beta could live in its jar until I could distill some water for it. (He's attacking goldfish right now its funny to watch him go at it).
