I already get free prescriptions, and in a few months I will receive the winter heating allowance; but today my bus pass arrived in the post meaning I can travel on any bus in the UK for free During my entire working life I have never had any benefits from the state, and have had to wait until now to get something for nothing. Jen still has to pay for everything as she is ten years younger than me, but "have pass will travel" can be my motto from this time on, as long as the government doesn't do a "U" turn and abolish such things; and I still think it is wrong to give free rides to the people who can afford to pay, as many over the age of 60 are in highly paid employment and live in big houses with 2 or 3 cars in the drive I will not go far without Jen, so a bus trip to a town a hundred miles away is not likely to happen, and it would probably take all day to get there anyway

As they say, if it's free, use it and abuse it Shame they don't give free rail passes like they use to as well.

As they say, if it's free, use it and abuse it Unfortunatley many humans over the years have followed this saying and look what we did to the planet. (earth)

I am going on my very first free bus ride into Chichester this morning. It isn't that far into town and you can walk it in half an hour, but if Jen and I decide to go to somewhere like Portsmouth, we normally used the train; but using the bus pass we could cut the cost by more than half from £20 to £7+30p.
Of course it still restricts travel compared to having your own car, but it helps as the savings can be spent on other things like food or clothing, and all because I now own that plastic card with my photo on it ;D
