Greetings Wood , May I check with you, if an unfertilized queen's eggs hatched into male ants, will the male ants mate with the queen and fertilized her? Hence start off an colony?

The chances of an unmated queen ant mating with her own sons are highly probable, as male ants will try to mate with any female ant including their own sisters, both queens and workers; but this means the queen (their mother) has to wait until the males are old enough to become sexually active In the meantime she could die if she has no workers of her own to forage for food for her, as it might take a full year for the mating to happen; and then there is no guarantee that a mating would be successful as they would be her own offspring.
