I have finally managed to buy a resonably good camcorder with which I have made a short video of my colony.
I have posted this on youtube and this is the link.
It isn't the best made video but it is pretty clear and there was a nice surprise whilst filming.

Please check out my latest video.Today my Nigers were moving their brood, in substantial numbers, above ground and in daylight. I have never seen this before. They are either supremely confident or hard as nails... ;D The Dog you can hear in the background is my Wife's Miniature Yorkshire Terrier called "The Big Man". As with my other Video I have added a link for Ant Hill World.

That's a nice colony you have there. The thistle is a good idea too. Do you have an estimate of the worker population?

My best count was 23 active foragers at any one time and this was done last week when we had a hot day in my area.
As to nest numbers I would say that it has to be between 100-150 workers by now given the quantity of brood being moved today.
I shall be creating my viewing panel soon and hopefully the Nigers will chamber against the glass once blacked out. I do this by painting the sides with white exterior paint leaving parts of the glass unpainted. I cover the unpainted parts with thick black card thus blocking off the light and absorbing extra heat from the Sun.
This was very successful at my old house and they stayed alongside the glass for years. Never once saw the Queen however.
