Just found this gorgeous specimen of a major on the surface this morning. She's bigger than any other worker I've had, about two thirds the size of the queen. Her head is a bright ruby hue. Here's a smaller major for comparison: I'm wondering why the larger one is more brightly coloured. Could she be a super-major? It was my first assumption, but she certainly isn't as big as the ones I saw in the wild some weeks back. In other news, pupae are eclosing, and I can see newer workers on the surface sometimes. This is also the first time I've seen majors venture to the surface this year.

In the case of major workers, some have red heads while others remain entirely black. In both of my own colonies and from my own observations, all super-majors have had very bright ruby red or orange heads without exception. Nice pics Timenova
