Hi, I'm new to this forum. I have a small Lasius Flavus colony living in an ant farm I built. My Queen, one worker and a small brood have been living in the test tube they arrived in since mid April. This morning they have disappeared from the test tube, presumably overnight. I don't know where they went. It was kind of 'here today gone tomorrow'.
Is there any possibility they could have burrowed into the cotton wool bung or can I safely remove the tube? Is it more likely they have burrowed into the ground? Thanks goter

To even be able to guess, it would help if we understood your set up a little better.

If you have the test tube buried within your ant farm, then flavus being underground dwellers, they more than likely have moved out of the tube and gone deep down. If you have a tank set up, lift it up and look underneath Please describe your set up as FL suggests, so we can get a better idea of the situation.

My set up is a perspex tank but with a wooden base, so I can't look underneath. It is partially filled with soil, and an area is grassed. There are also some rocks and sticks for decor. I reckon they've left the tube now. I'll try removing it. Thanks
