They look like they are quite big. The pictures of ants can be deceiving though. Yes Camponotus are a very large ant genus.

This is a lovely photo taken by my very good friend Gordon Snelling. They are Myrmecocystus semirufus foraging in a desert near Apple Valley in California. The same species taken in his yard/garden. (Click on photo to enlarge)

Believe it or not, these are sisters from the same colony. These are Colobopsis species from Florida, the large headed worker uses her head to block the entrance hole to the nest until she receives the correct signals from her foraging sisters to let them back into the nest. Photo courtesy of Alex Wild.

Camponotus singularis have quite odd looking heads which is why I find ants so interesting. I was going to get a colony of them as there was a nice discount on them at antstore in summer for 40 euros, still expensive when p&p added but better then 70 euros at time.

Another nice species is the Green Weaver Ant, Oecophylla smaragdina. This is a lovely photo of a queen and worker.

A colony of Aenictus fuchuanensis which live in Asia. Not a good species to keep in captivity as they die out very fast, so best studied in their wild habitat.

Soldier and worker castes of the ant species Pheidole flavaria. That's interesting, I thought it was the soldiers that act as repletes in Pheidole colonies?

Taken very recently in Texas by Alex Wild, a remarkable photo of a Fire Ant Queen (Solenopsis invicta) with workers and eggs.
