I would take the mote out and happy to see queens fine. Maybe she fell in to a deep sleep or something but keep a eye on her.

If she had an air pocket around her body she could have breathed for a long time, as not all ants drown when under water. Glad to hear she is alive and well Mark.

I think its the tiny hairs on them that hold the air, its a wonderful defence they have! She's doing great I have a little video I took of her last night around 11pm (I have to be up and out for work at 5am thats how hectic it was last night lol) sadly the large garden is gone now none survived, looking through it there were some very large larvae in there!
Live and learn!

Not every day you get to hear about an Atta queen who is having a bath

Is it me or does it seem weird that the workers and soldiers would let the queen just wander around and out of the nest.

They had turned there leaf feeder in to a garden lol and it was quite large and looked fresh so I assume she had been taken over there. Only thing with the temp housing is its only up to 78%RH, the fungus looks ok though and isn't shrinking so I'm not worried, on a plus I can see her again now, just gutted I lost the main garden as it was huge!

After the madness of the past few days I'm pleased to say that all is normal. There taking bramble back to the fungus and the humidity level is rising its at a steady 91%rh.
When my battery is charged I will get round to uploading the video of the queen.

Glad there getting back to normal mate. I know folk have said to get rid of the moat but I don't see how people can keep these without one?? My Acromyrmex must have had a population explosion or something and I'm finding it hard to open the doors at all at the minute. I think if you used pipe like I've just done on my Atta set up and design a rim for the island that the queen couldn't climb it would minimise the risk as the bigger our colonys get the harder they are to feed as you know.

Only just discovered this journal, I'm really glad everything workers out for you in the end! I've had a Lasius queen who 'drowned' then came back around and she now has 10 little nanitics. Hopefully yours will come round aswell as mine. Shame about losing the main garden, oh well I'm sure they will grow another
