Hey there fellow Ant lovers, I currently have a problem.. I have an Ant farm which is going well but recently some ants have been escaping!!! I don't know how to stop them. I have already put vaseline on the top of the tank so they can't escape but they have managed to still get over it. As well as putting vaseline on the tank I have also put double sided tape on the top of the tank. this doesn't stop them from escaping, it just slows them down from escaping. So have you any ideas for me on how I could stop them from escaping? If there is no way to stopping them, then I would have to do the worst thing and kill them and possibly the whole farm the farm is currently in my room and I can't have them running around freely
I have seen there is a liquid I can purchase where I put on the top of my tank and it stops them from crossing that area, but where can I purchase it from?
Another question. My Ant farm is about 5 months old, at an estimate how many worker ants should roughly be in my tank. My ants are the Lasius niger ants
Thank you in advance for your help
Unknown

I have put this thread in the wrong section. Sorry for this mistake, could a moderator move it to a suitable section. Thanks

Hi Unknown, L.niger species are difficult to keep in and Vaseline is not very successful at stopping them.
You need a tighter lid that fits better on the tank, or you will have to resort to the tape. Only holes the size of a pin hole will stop nigers from getting out. Any cracks and crevices they will squeeze through.
The liquid you mentioned is probably sold on the Antstore site, see below on the Affiliates at the bottom of the page.
