On arrival home last Monday I noticed I have approx. 30 eggs!
I must have a queen although I'm having problems telling her apart from the others, she must be about the same size as the co-workers. The nest size is only about 35 in total, although they seem to have made themselves very comfortable.
do not go poking your fingers in there , they are very aggresive in there own territory. I use the two adjacent cd cases as feeding areas. I have been stung once, and that was enough.
A weird thing happened this morining. I woke to see the ants bringing the eggs to the surface of the soil.
My Probable Reason: Storms were predicted and the air pressure has indicated to the ants flooding may occur. After the storm (outside obviously) passed they have been taken back underground.
The latest few pictures to follow.
The 2nd CD case now houses the eggs. A tube running from the bottom left hand corver connects this housing to the main unit. The eggs can be seen
Size in comparison to my notebook. They like the warmth from the laptop hot air ejection port.
Feeding on oats in the feeding bay.
Assuming a male flyer. There are about 7 flyers in all.
