Having a Lasius flight right now in Kent. I've caught about 10 nigers so far.

Got 30 Queens so far. Think I'll stop collecting but you see one and can't help but want to take her.

We've had two solid days of rain and the forecast for the next two are hot and sunny in Oslo, maybe it's a good opportunity for some species! I'm very interested in a Myrmica colony, but where I live is very Lasius and Formica dominant. I need to find a nest before later in the summer when they fly.

I did see one single winged Alate the other day whilst I was out, but no others...

No flights in my part of London today. One or two males of my mature Lasius niger back garden making an above ground appearance this evening, but they got dragged back into the nest by the workers. Too windy to fly today! I have seen a dead Lasius niger Queen without wings on the pavement however...

Do Myrmica tend to fly around the same time as Lasius?

Do Myrmica tend to fly around the same time as Lasius? Myrmica often fly in August in late afternoon or around sunset when it is warm, but the heat of the day is a bit cooler. Lasius are more likely to fly in July from 2 PM onwards during very hot humid days.

Speaking of Myrmica. I went out scouting for a colony yesterday and I managed to find one approx 4-5 minutes walk from my house. I found two entrances, but since it was a bit later in the evening I couldn't see much activity so I don't know if its a new nest or not. Hopefully they will fly in August. The search continues :-)

Do Myrmica tend to fly around the same time as Lasius? I find them in August-September around parks, especially if it has a body of water, however I have found two nice Queens in my garden too. I have a Myrmica rubra colony in my garden somewhere, as I see the odd worker now and again. I am looking for Myrmica rubra myself this year. I will start of a colony with 2-3 Queens. In London I can find a few, so if I get extra, I can probably send some out in test tubes.

I'm covered in nigers, they are everywhere. Even the car and the neighbours gate! I've seen about 6 flights up to now and it's so humid. No wonder they are flying today
