Hey shawn, my queen turned up a couple of days ago and was very active. Within a two days she had brought sand and grass into her tube, dug two tunnels, ate tomato and settled in her tunnel and laid some eggs...I would recommend this company although she did seem pretty hungry. so, have your ants come yet and if so what species are they and are they settling in? thanks, Austin. Only ordered today so should get them Tuesday but I have used the company before so I'm happy with them. I was going to get Messor barbarus but I got Lasius niger instead lol, Messor barbarus next I hope Glad yours turned up safe and sound and shes healthy and eating fingers crossed she starts laying eggs. What species you get? Shawn

Nice to see a UK company selling the starter set up, as only Antstore sold them before. Having a good Formicarium is just what you need for serious ant keeping Because you gave it a I'll order it asap

Hi Shawn, I'm sorry to hear about your ants and your story made me feel very That starter kit looks very good...I have ordered my ants from there and I am still waiting for them; have you ordered from there and if so are they any good? Thanks mate, Austin Hi I've not ordered that kit or ants yet but I did get my first queen from them last year and they arrived within a week. But not sure what the weather has been like by you because its been cold and frosty by me so they might not send them out in cold weather?? Shawn

Hi I'm back (well my first visit was only short lol) My ants died so I lost faith and wasn't going to try again. But I was talking to someone and they had ants and I think I've caught the bug again lol. He had a shed with about 6 colonies 4 different species. So I think I'll try again I'm not sure why my ants died they seem fine and I had about 15 workers. I started noticing dead ants being carried out the nest then food wasn't being eaten like it was and then I didn't see movement for over a week I put a fly next to the nest set up my web cam, over the next few days a recorded and saw nothing so I had a little dig to the nest I found what I think was the queen she was dead and covered in white mound So I think I'll try store.edu-sci.com/ant-starter-set-a-p-287.html?osCsid=59aaa302476cc18efe7f96ba1035b512what you think? any good? Thanks Shawn

I lifted a large pebble in my back garden last week and it had about 12 or so workers under it, I didn't think to look for a queen Shawn

During the warm sunny days of mid spring, young mated queens can be also found under rocks absorbing the heat of the rock. It is during this time that a young colony can be found. Ah didn't know that I'll have to have a look out myself Shawn

Well you can buy them now from AntStore or Edu-Sci links are at top of the home page. But you will have to wait till late summer for the mating flights so you can catch a wild queen.

You can't buy or sell queens in the USA, it's illegal, you need a permit or something. Only way to get them is to collect them yourself after they have mated This has been talked about a lot. Shawn
