The ants are busy, very busy in fact! The sun pelts its heat out on our front path and grass. Lying in wisps of long grass by our lamp post, I spotted my favourite beauties piling out of a hole in the heat. ???L.flavus, a beautiful colour in the sunshine, they were only a stones throw away from the nigers too It's getting exciting, the flights cannot be far off

Hi jen, I have already seen a couple of young fusca queens wandering around. But lucky you, I'm at the caravan in the lake district and its bucketing down. Andrew

Have a nice holiday Andrew I hope the weather improves for you! The entrance holes to the nests, are open as wide as they can make them everywhere now. The alates can be seen in groups going in and out with their wings glistening in the sunshine. I think these few months are always the most exciting time to watch ants, here in the UK anyway. I am almost too frightened to walk down the front path for fear of treading on them all, so I tend to divert onto the grass
