This shows what happens to the dead decaying bodies of insects that ants don't remove from artificial nests in captivity.

How many ants live in this formicaria? Could it be that they have no spare space that they are using the free space for their garbage?

Ants will choose certain areas of the nest to have their midden. They have loads of spare chambers to choose, ensuring the immediate nest where the brood is, is clear of remains. When the time is right, they will clear a certain amount out to the outworld. Some species are better at doing this than others. One draw back of the acrylic as you can see the waste, something you don't notice with soil.

Thank you wood Ant, very nice read and very interesting species to keep.
Some day I will look into this specie, for now though I have much to learn but they are on my future to buy list.
Back when I was a teen I kept many species of stick insects, Indian Stick Insects, Giant Spiny and Giant Prickly been the ones I kept mostly. so for this specie of ant (just like the stick insects) to do well at room temperature is not a huge shock, and is good to hear because it means less to worry about during the winter.
