While walking our little dog this morning, I did as I always do; and that was to check the local Lasius flavus mounds along our front path. There has been a lot of fresh soil dug up, and just under the freshly dug mounds there were dozens of workers; and among those were several winged males. It is getting very humid outside, as we have had far more rain than we should be getting for the time of year; but the sun is now heating up with a vengeance and the temperature is set to soar later today. I wonder if this means that the L. flavus are due for a second mating flight?

Hi All, I have been out on my knees with the camera this evening, watching flavus alates on our front grounds. They are extremely active outside of their nests, and I feel a flight is imminent ...... Take a look at these busy pics, sorry for some blur
