Not sure which one is the queen, or if any of them are, as they all look much the same in size and shape. This colony arrived today from The Ant Shop, but I will not be making a journal until we see eggs being laid.

This is what James Trager has to say about this species. Quote} "This species frequently has fertile ergatoid reproductives, so lack of a morphologically distinct queen may not be necessary."Unquote.

This morning 3 of them were in the nest, 1 in the foraging arena and the other 3 in the outer box. Guess where they've all ended up now? It's a case of Jack (or Jill in this case) in the box. Video to follow.

They don't accept dead food - it must be live Do you keep this species Antboy? If they are fussy eaters they won't get much live food as I freeze insect food for all my ants, and other species are fine with eating this.

Because I don't have time too sorry. Why? You post about ants other members keep but never mention your own ants, so why not make a journal to show how you keep yours? This forum is all about being a community and learning from each other, so your knowledge would be very helpful to us on how to keep certain species.

These appear to be very in vogue right now, everyone is talking about them. I don't have these, what's the standard price of a small colony?

Hey Wood I kept a successful colony of these that went on to produce winged queens and males and mated in the colony, think I had about 12 queens running a colony at one point lol , If honest in my experience they prefer live food and mine rarely took dead crickets and would ignore them, it's something to do with the actual stinging of the insects, I think the venom gives off a pheromone as I always found once the insects were stung and paralyzed the Harpies became much more interested in these and totally ignored the dead crickets I tried them with.
Only downside to live food is risk of mite introduction which can literally destroy the Harpies as they're so sensitive to them.

It remains static at 5 adults with no brood since they ate the 2 eggs, but they do eat live wax moths.
