Don't try this at home as he was just demonstrating a harvester ant test stings before he try's the bullet ant sting at some point.
I do wonder what harvester ant they are as them seem to have a stinger.

The ants I think are Pogonomyrmex, but I'm not sure of the exact species to name it?

Black Messor species can be found in southern USA and Mexico, but as Pogo's are more common in Arizona I think this is the most likely ant in the video. Pogonomyrmex rugosus.

On the video it says they are Pogonomyrmex maricopa, yet they look black and all the pics I have seen of them show this ant to be bright red. Confusing isn't it? Photos of P. maricopa by Alex Wild

Just watched the video again, and yes Blackant it does say P. maricopa which are in fact a bright orange in colour. In fact none of the Pogonomyrmex species seem to be black, so either it is a trick of the light or they may even be another ant species. I have lost touch with my ant expert who lived in Arizona, so sadly cannot confirm what they are.
