I just looked up a new article about Slave making ants and they are always at risk of dying if they go out on nest raids. Also there can be bad at petering new young as well as workers laying unfertile eggs So does this mean that a slave making colony works as a queen less colony if works lay there own eggs and a slave making queen is just seen as a worker by the colony works ?
In the end I do think Slave working colonys do help to boost the males population for Formica

Slave making ants such as Formica sanguinea do not need slave species as such, as the queens lay eggs that produce workers which can care for the brood. Polyergus however cannot feed themselves, and while the queen lays eggs these will only become more slave raiders which need a slave species to do all the work around the nest and fed their captors. Read more here.Yes the article is talking about Polyergus and what I was trying to say they raid and enslave Formica nests then workers that's enslaved are like in a Formica queen less nest as the workers don't stop other works from laying unfertile eggs like they would if it was in a nest with Formica queens.
