Haven't seen any here in Portsmouth although the weather is very still and humid right now. A few weeks ago I saw an L.niger princess wandering around a pavement but she was unaccompanied. I'll keep an eye out.

No flights here in Buckinghamahire, I checked some nests yesterday and the alates of Niger are ready. Fusca alates are still in there nests also, I was under the impression they should had long flown by now but I don't believe they have. I am yet to find any Myrmica alates present in nests. It's been too windy and showers almost everyday. The weather for Monday/Tuesday looks promising.

There was a Lasius niger flight a few hours ago. I managed to obtain a queen. I know I said I'd only keep a few colonies this year but she has just been flying across Portsmouth, evading seagulls and my dog to find a mate and get back down in one piece. I figured she deserves a chance.

I didn't bother looking this year as I have no desire to keep any common ants that our garden is full of.

Here in Nottingham we had one big flight about a week ago and my lawn was swarming with wingless queens. A few days ago a large colony living in the gaps of my house's tiles and walls all began taking off and there are still a few winged queens in the entrance so I will expect another flight soon.

Large flight of L. niger and what I think might be L. flavus in Buckingham this afternoon.

I have seen many Lasius flights but no Myrmica ones yet Myrmica often fly well into September, so keep looking as they tend to fly in late afternoon and early evening just prior to sunset.
