I've never kept a Camponotus species, although I'm really tempted to get a colony of Barbaricus from anthouse. I cannot however find any journals from anyone who has kept this species successfully, and I am not sure what to expect (other than a slow rate of brood development). If anyone has any experience with this species or can tell me how similar they are to other species, such as Ligniperdus, it would be really appreciated and will help to give me an idea of what to expect if I do get some. Thanks!

We recently had a colony from them, but not doing great as the colony is small. link to diary! But there are so many Componotus that are great to keep, ligniperdus are also another one that can be difficult and prone to a lot of failures, as we have tried them several times now in different setups. Some species I feel are just not good in captivity.

I brought a colony of ligniperdus last year around September, 1 queen and 3 workers. They are now up to 7 workers, the first 3 workers have since died I have kept them in the test tube they come in, left it open and placed them in an antkit outworld to allow foraging. They have done well I have never had a problem with them. I try not to disturb them much and keep them in the loft which is very warm.

Thanks for the responses! I think I'll try my luck with Barbaricus - my room is a loft conversion so it is very warm. I was actually planning on keeping them in a test tube in an antkit 0 for a while so hopefully this will work!
