I made 2 videos today to show the comb spines on 2 of my Camponotus species, using a magnifying lens to make the ants bigger than they actually are. Note that the spines are longer on the C. singularis. The C. cruentatus have shorter leg spines, but use them for the same grooming and cleaning of the body to remove dirt. All ants possess such spines (combs) sited just above the feet, mostly on the front legs with other leg spines situated on the rear legs. Here is greatly magnified picture of the actual ant cleaning comb.
