Have you ever seen workers doing first aid/trying to bring a dead/dying worker back? It's a wonder to behold, I assure you. All Of You! John xxjj ¶ anbudan ¶ அன்புடன் me =°= =°= =°= =°= =°= = ॐ = It's not something that I've personally witnessed, but I take pains to make sure my ants don't get injured (Even though mistakes happen). I have found though that ants that "drown" can be resuscitated if you lay them on some tissue to dry out. They fall into a sort of deep sleep and wake up alive and well once they've dried out. I think it has something to do with their hairs trapping air.

Unfortunately the worker count has fallen to 20 as the older workers are dying off. The queen has ceased laying eggs completely and although there's four or five cocoons, the larvae are barely growing and the workers show no interest in bringing insects into the nest. It's like this colony is only active for a few months a year.
The male is still alive though.
