Fugax are known as the thief ant commonly - thats the reason they are so small, so they can steal other species brood that they nest next to. They're quite a lot different to invicta . And yeh, these ants are typically 3-6mm in length, having both minor and media worker casts.

This colony is meeting the status quo at the moment. When I got back there were 6 workers tugging at the cotton attempting to get out, so I've moved them to the red YTong nest. Unfortunately 3 workers got out during the move and I didn't particularly want to pick them up so the less we talk about them the better.
On the plus size, the workers are certainly getting bigger. Not sure if these are medias or if they're just being fed better than the first generation of workers.

I've had that problem with my stinging species as well (Myrmica and Manica). What I do is use the cotton to pick them up, a bit like how you use a bag to pick up a dog's business. Then they can be safely put back in without risk of getting stung.
