We are currently having a thunderstorm here in Chichester, and after 7 weeks of dry weather it is finally raining. The ground is baked so dry that the grass and other half dead plants are giving off a very musty aroma, but it will need a lot more water to revive the plants, and as some may be completely dead they are beyond any hope of saving I'm afraid. It is set to go back to the heatwave again next week, so I hope we get a lot more rain over the weekend.

We've had it here in Portsmouth as well. I've never been so glad to smell the fresh aroma of damp earth and grass, believe me. I've never liked hot weather.
