If you watched Countryfile this morning you would have seen they had a piece on what Buglife are doing for Formica exsecta. Nice to see these ants as you are unlikely to see them in the wild and its good to know Buglife are doing something to try and help this species. I do wonder what they are doing for the other endangered ant species in this country.

The only time I have seen this species in the wild was in Bournemouth, on a path leading down to the beach near Alum Chine, which was a wooded area. Workers were foraging on the concrete steps. I haven't seen them since 1997 there, but I hope their nest was not destroyed by anyone or anything, so maybe they died out for some reason. Good to hear that people are doing their best to protect this endangered species.
