Something it didn't expect was that when springtails eat egg yolk they turn yellow.

Just lately I offered my Nodas some nut and fruit mix, from what I've seen they will eat dried banana slices and peanuts,so I can offer these now in addition to springtails.

At the moment my ants are gathering round the rock sugar I've put in,they won't take sugar water or honey water so I thought I'd give rock sugar a go and it's a hit with my ants,I've offered some to my other ants, but the Noda girls are reacting positively to it more than my other ants, although my other Ants are just Queens with no workers so this could be why.

I have started a food experiment with my colony,as well as the normal food I offer I've decided to see if they prefer other foods, today is day one and the offering is wet cat food in gravy, one worker approached the food then ran back to the nest,in fact I've never seen a ant of this colony run so fast,I'm not sure whether this is a good or bad sign,it was either so bad that they needed to get away as fast as they could,or it was so good that the worker ran back in excitement,I watched for a few more minutes as one worker then another came up to investigate, but they never tasted it like the first one had,so as I said I don't know whether it's a hit or miss, funny thing is the springtails will not touch it,everything else I've put in the springtails have swarmed it but not the cat food,I will check on the progress later.

Well the springtails have formed a line around the gravy of the cat food and this has reduced in size,I think my colony is a little bit preoccupied, for the last couple of days I have seen them carrying what looks like their brood to one of their nest entrance nearer where I place their food,I don't really know why except of course for the convenience of shorter scavenging trips for food, also this entrance is right in front of where the heat mat is situated, there has been more workers out and about today too,but I haven't seen any carrying bits of cat food saying that I haven't been able to watch them all day.

Not much to report, the springtails are still working their way through the cat food, and a few worker ants are carrying rubbish out of the nest and clearing twigs from the opening of the nest.

The latest food offered was a pinkie,of course the springtails are swarming it,the workers and soldiers have approached it,but I have not caught them eating any of it,I think to be honest that they were only on the hunt for the springtails,I will not be leaving it in for much longer has it will start to smell in a day or two,the only other thing I have to say is that a particular soldier ant was fished out of their drinking water about ten minutes ago by me,it seemed to be okay despite it's ordeal and was walking on my hand okay as I tried to encourage it onto the moss,I made sure that I added enough moss to the drinking water so they have a better chance of climbing out or not falling in at all.

A pinkie might be too big a meal for a colony of that size.

They aren't even interested in it anyway, they seem to go near it enough to catch springtails that are feasting on it,I'm taking the pinkie out of the enclosure tomorrow before it starts to smell bad,I was just looking of a way to give the colony a protein boost in case they needed it,although it is possible if they catch enough springtails they will be okay.

I removed the pinkie this morning much to the annoyance of the springtails,I don't seem to have had much success introducing a new type of food to this colony,if they are getting enough protein from the springtails then all's good.
