I couldn't resist getting this exotic arboreal species when I saw them for sale on Antsrus. I bought two queens. Normally queens found their colonies alone but apparently exceptions can occur? This species is known for its vicious sting which is supposed to be very painful. They live in trees and dead wood and I've even read that the workers are capable of crossing water. As far as I'm aware, shane is the only person on this forum to have kept them. Here are the queens. The one on the left appears to be the more dominant of the two. She's very active and walked straight onto my hand when I opened the test tube to put a bit of sugar water in. The queen on the right hardly moves. Chris thinks she behaves this way out of submission (Hopefully she isn't ill!). The more active queen drank a small amount of sugar water. There are twelve large and healthy looking larvae, but a few of them appear to be brown and shrivelled. From my experience this is a universal indicator of a dying larva. Wonder why that is? They were in transit for less than a day. Hopefully these queens will found a nice colony together.

I'm sorry to say that these ants have done terribly since they arrived, despite the help of Chris. The weaker queen of the two died and Chris very kindly sent me another queen with her own brood but like the other remaining queen, she refuses to eat and her larvae literally turned brown and started to rot within days. Unless they pull themselves together and start laying eggs, this may be my shortest journal yet.
