Tonight I have filmed L.flavus also, (film to follow soon) The winged queens came out and the whole nest was thriving. I think the mating flight might be getting ready for tomorrow now as the sun has gone down. It is very hot and humid here in Southern England and we have seen 2 niger flights already.

Indeed, I observed one in my neighbors garden. There were so many ants there. There were also winged queens as well. They were coming out of a hole right beside her house. I went close and that may have been a mistake as soon after I found himself surrounded with them and they were crawling up me, etc. I only fear they are also in her house, which means she will most likely get the nest destroyed and the queen killed. I wish there was a way to get the queen before she does so, but I believe it's impossible to do so. So there is nothing I can do. It was amazing to watch though!
