Today, I got a budgie from our local pet shop. He is called Smartie, and is absolutely lovely. He is yellow, and has some blue on his back and hopefully at some point I will teach him to talk, which will be fun. I also have some canaries, which I hope he will get on with. ;D

Budgies like to be occupied being members of the parrot family, and are quite intelligent. They like toys etc and enjoy being allowed to fly free once in a while if you can manage it (shut the windows first) One thing to watch out for if you have not kept them before is feather plucking. They do like company, so a female might be an idea for the future

And also, canaries may start nipping at budgie's feet, as budgie's feet look sort of like seeds...well, in a birds mind anyway.

I always let my canaries fly free every day, so once he has settled down and has got used to his cage I will allow him out. I will get him a female companion sometime in the future. He likes the canaries, especially when they sing, which he always trills back to, although I will not allow him too near the canaries, or he will bully them, being a bigger bird.
