I saw an alate of Campontus vagus today and made me wonder if it's their season yet. It landed on my friends foot, stood there for 5 seconds and then flew away. I apologize if this topic is covered already.

May is normally too early for ants to fly in cooler parts of Europe, but with all the warm weather and humidity it could be that this was a rogue ant that flew from the nest a bit too soon I'm not sure when Camponotus vagus usually fly, but I suspect that June is probably the month they do if they're anything like other woodland dwelling ant species. We don't get them (Campo species) here in Britain, but I do know for certain that Formica rufa nests have plenty of male and female alates just waiting for the right time to come around; and June is approaching fast, or is it just me that thinks time is moving at a faster rate these days?

The weather lately was just right for flights the temperature was about 28C and it has just rained a day before I saw her. I saw that Blem12 experienced the same thing in Britain. Anyway I will keep my eyes open.Thank you for the reply.
