Thank you ;D They almost dragged out about 27% of the dirt already and dropped it off in there foraging tank I'll have to clean up tomorrow it seems before it's full of sand. It's really nice to watch them making their new home with picking up stones or sand packs in there jaws and carrying to human terms like 1000metiers and back. Their queen hasn't moved in yet it seems and still in small nest and I'm shocked to see ants with sand and stones in there jaws have made a busy trail going through small nest on top as below are busy with larva and pupae undisturbed back the busy like traffic of other ants digging stuff out of for their new home.

I loved the latest video, Shane (25.06.2011). It was very interesting to watch your ants go about their daily work and to see the great set up you have. I loved the bit where (about 1 minute in) the soldier/major worker was in the tubing and getting in the way of the little worker ant who, in the end when unable to pass by, simply walked underneath her larger sister. Can we see the queen please? If I can find the queen, she may well be still in her old home on side of wall, With luck and cover left off old nest she may move tonight into her new home, will have camera at ready when she does.

Most of time if there like up to 2 or 3 weeks old they will do it a lot the ant, Like finding there right way to go with either food or garbage. Some times too one of the ants may lay down a false trail ant thinks is going the right way with food and some of ant's following may get confused for a sec and works out the stronger one's best to follow.

Log: 14.07.2011 ============ Long last Queen moved from her old small nest last night ;D Seems she wanterd to move in privet no video of her moving and here a pic of her in her now home at bottom of ner nest and for once she dint mind a close up. I also cleaded out there foragin tank and removed there old small nest, >< taken me hours to do with all ants. Found out to that thick shampoo seems to stop them all from scattering out of there foragin tank. ======================================= Thick shampoo? Now there's a novel idea! Thanks. I just tested some smelly sticky shampoo as I ran out of spirits or vodka when I was cleaning them out With a paint brush I just smeared it all along top inner side and it stopped them crossing line. The only prob is once it drys they will cross even if theres a smell on it If you like spraying water in foragin tank which I don't, Please don't use shampoo on top sides as it could mix with water droplets on glass or sides and end up getting in soil.

Thank you, It would have been over 7mins if I didn't cut some bits short. Also the video got a bit big in file size to upload There was a dieing major in foragin tank on ramp at top of screen side on video even though she keeps coming back to life, maybe reason why workers have not moved her to bin zone yet at top right of foragin tank. I do think that any bit of cold seems to make major ants ill if they stay to long away from warm nest.

Wow Shane, looking at your latest video you need to add another set up as your colony has outgrown the one it is in ;D The photos of the majors are lovely and clear, as they look a reddish bronze or fiery copper colour all over their body

Yeah with way queens producing eggs I may need another set up as colony numbers could be reaching at 2k at Xmas. They seem to be all colors majors for some reason, New majors seem to be a very light bronze then darken with age with what ever pigment color they have, musty a dark hazelnut or bronze as you said with a bit of red pigment. here's another pic of them coming out to have a bit of a watermelon

I like watching them go up and down that bridge. An icelolly stick? Stick's from a coffee shop where you stir sugar for tea or coffee, I asked if I could take some back for my pets last year, which I could ;D

Your latest video Shane is brilliant I loved the way they rip the chicken off and the other workers follow the scent up the pipe behind the meat! I hope they consume the chicken and don't leave it in the nest to grow mold later? They certainly love it, it's like chocolate is to us

They certainly love it, it's like chocolate is to us Thanks Once chicken gets in nest with over 1500+ ant's in, The meat will not last more than an hour, So I don't have to worry anymore with meat been left to get moldy anymore.
