I have today started a new journal on the colony which arrived from Ants Kalytta in Germany. Please add any comments or post questions about them here

This colony arrived today from Kalytta came in perfect condition. They were all alive and not stressed. The container they came in was new and sealed with just small airholes. A pot of seed was also included. They were ordered last Tuesday, posted Wednesday afternoon standard post.

Glad they arrived to you safe and sound! I bet they will thrive and flourish in yours and Jen's hands.
Good luck!

That colony should become huge compared to even the Messor barbarus ones. Good luck with these!

I have been trying to find the maximum size a colony can reach, and so far it ranges between 2,000 to about 10,000. I think I will be happy if mine gets to around the 700 to 900 mark as I only have about 60 to 70 workers at present. I suppose it will depend on how old the 3 queens are and how healthy

You could always keep the camera trained on them while you are out of the room, to catch them in the act of taking food?

Is it not just the super majors that have red heads?

Not sure if it applies to M.structor as well, but the standard majors of M.barbarus generally have red heads (Although this might depend on the queen's colour?).
