nice photos! what have you given your queen for nutrition.... when she was by herself my compo is being stubborn and it does not seem like she is going to produce anything... she might die... I give her sugar and water nothing seems to be working even honey....

I gave her nothing but water. She has enough nutrition to last her till she has a few workers.

Great photos! Could you let us know which species are shown in the photos - I thought I recognised C. vagus, ligniperda... but you live in the US, so they could be different species, I guess?

The all black ant is Camponotus pennsylvanicus and the red/black are Camponotus chromaiodes. The all reddish ant is Polyergus lucidus. The Formica ant is a slave maker specie carrying her prize , and the last one a small single Solenopsis queen.

Polyergus can't even feed themself and must rely on slaves to do all work. They just know how to kill and and plunder. When they bite, they will rock back and fourth slowly stabbing deeper into your skin.
