I reckon it's because all ants are 100% social insects, whereas bees and wasps can be either social or solitary. You don't find ants being solitary except when a queen is nest/colony founding, but several species of bees and wasps live their entire lives as solitary and only come together for mating. You may get sand wasps and some sand dwelling bee species which nest very close together, but they do not form a colony where each one helps the others. Ergo, the answer is that ants are always found living together as a colony of related individuals aiding each other for the greater good and existence of the family unit

Spot on Wood rocks for giving the right answer Next question. What member of the wood ant (formica rufa) family only lives in Bournemouth on the Dorset coast of southern England? Wood will know this, so maybe he should let someone else answer it

Don't you love it when someone revives a 'long dead' thread?
Umm... Let's give Formica Exsecta a go...

Anyone can post a question on this species quiz, so long as it's ants, but if no one can think of one I will try to come up with a new ant species poser sometime.

Ok I guess I will give it a go. What species of ant has the capibility to so called 'explode'? I know this one, but won't give the answer so that other members can have a go.
