It's larger than most I've seen, and better, I'll give it that. I give a 9.5/10, missing that .5 only because of my preferences: I see a lot of ant species and have no background knowledge on them, as I generally research ants that live around my parts, so when someone says, "Formica rufa", I'm left thinking, "Formica rufa, Formic- Oh yeah, that guy". Oh, well. No where is perfect.

I have to say that this is one of the very few forums that actually makes you feel at home. A great site for information where even a noobs ideas are welcome.

Well, when I joined I was expecting one of those 1 thread a week forums but was happy to find that this forum really is very active.
Its not about the amount of members as 10 active and friendly members is all you really need to have a good forum.
I think the main aim of this forum is too teach people about ants and help them raise colonies without making mistakes as, from what I can see the forum is made up of experienced ant keepers and people like me who just pop in for a few weeks and then become slowly inactive... ;D

That is the time it is always hard for a forum to keep going with material. Yes the aim of this forum is to guide people into the correct way of keeping ants, but at the same time enjoy chatting with like minded people We have members that will return having had a 10month break, but still expect us to be here for them in times of trouble. I am hoping when Proboards do their big upgrade for these forums, it will happen during the quiet months.

Best ant forum there is with such nice friendly people, as they don't shout at members for making mistakes all the time like the American guy does. Why he (most of you know who he is?) runs a forum I don't know, as Jen and her team are simply the greatest when it comes to helping people learn about ants

Even though I have only started in this forum, I want to thank you for making this possible... There is so much knowledge about keeping ants here and so many entertaining stories to read it'll surely take me months to read most things which I want Keep it up, Jen

To address any bad points, the layout is very simple. Most younger people don't have any trouble with the layout or format of this forum. There are boards that are designed for the more knowledgable, as this forum is not just to attract kids like some forums set out to be; but to cater for the needs of all ages. Most forums have large amounts of inactive members, I have known people to come back after 2yrs and start keeping ants again, one good reason not to give up and delete a forum after that time. We are designed to cover basic to mid range knowledge and share the hobby, members shop the internet if they can`t find what they want to know , this is a UK forum and so we do not hold knowledge about every species as we have already stated.

I find the layout easy enough once you get used to the various boards, and this forum does treat all members as though they are a family of mature and serious ant lovers. Much prefer it here to the other UK based ant forum, which is just far too childish for my liking.

Much prefer it here to the other UK based ant forum, which is just far too childish for my liking. Jen made this forum to mimic a real ant hill as closely as possible. We (all members that is) want to make it informative, yet fun, giving the members the feel that we are interested in all members of all ages; and not just those who are of school age (13, 14 & 15 year olds). So you will never find us behaving silly or posting none productive posts of just one or two words, or a single smiley, as we have no rivals as far as we are concerned. At least none that matter anyway!

Great forum I'm sure I'll get to know more people as I get more involved. At the moment though my thoughts are... As long as Wood Ant is active my ants are safe

Great forum I'm sure I'll get to know more people as I get more involved. At the moment though my thoughts are... As long as Wood Ant is active my ants are safe Ed Wilson is still active as an ant hunter and famous myrmecologist at the grand age of 82, so as I am 20 years younger than he is I hope to keep going for a long time yet. I have many contacts with entomologists in many parts of the world and with several university professors, so even with my vast knowledge on ants, if I don't always know something I can usually find help from someone in the know. Living in England all my life has helped me to find many of the British ant species, some quite rare too. However, it's like I have often said here, we can learn from each other; and though I enjoy being a mentor and teacher, I can still enjoy learning from the experiences of other ant lovers wherever they may be.

I love this site! I spend ages reading the posts! I'm on my computer heaps so I leave the forum window open so that I can flick back to it when I am bored with other stuff. I wasn't actually going to join initially. My dad saw that I was reading it as a visitor and he had a look. The next thing I know is that he made an account for me! Cheeky sod! Although I wasn't impressed when I found out that he had used his date of birth to register... Oh, I think I know why he did - Still protecting his 'little girl' from the internet, I guess. Ok dad, you are forgiven... (does a daughter ever get to grow up in their fathers eyes?) I haven't felt the need to join other forums. This one seems friendly. Think I would like to stay around. And I like the attitude given to novices (ie, me!), of not patronising them or joking about them,. Big thumbs up on that score. What I am really pleased with, is that no-one has said to me that the ant I am intending to keep is over the top for a novice and should be left to 'the experts'. Well, it's outside my house. It's a beautiful ant. And if I can learn enough about ants before I give it a home, then I don't see an issue. It will also keep my little brothers amused for hours too! Thank you for all the good work that has gone into running this forum. Jen

I too find the site great and have never felt the need to "forage" else where, so high marks from me and a big thankyou to jen and wood for all their help and advice.
