Haha thanks guys! I noticed that they now have larvae but I still cannot see into their main nest. Also my Lasius now have a pupae

With regards to the Formica rufa workers carrying around others piggy back fashion Jon, this is a common trait of these ants, even if it is a bit odd. Why they do this behaviour I am not exactly sure about, though often smaller worker ants will cadge a lift from their bigger sisters, either for protection or just out of laziness, as ants rarely get tired or exhausted. ;D
