Hiya guys I should be getting a nice big fish tank of one of my friends in the next month or two as he has sold them to another friend. I was wondering what type of ants are easy to look after and have a soldier or major caste and are easy to obtain. I have loads of food as I can buy 25 crickets for around 3 pounds 5 minutes from my house so colonies that grow large are not a problem.

I would also recommend Messor barbarus. The workers come in various sizes including larger Majors. They are very easy to look after. Quite active and like to forage. And I don't think they are brilliant when it comes to climbing.

You should come round and see what our 2 largest Messor colonies get up to in the evening James, as they are very adept at climbing the walls of their tanks. ;D

Messor barbarous it is then I will buy some in the next couple of weeks. Side note does PTFE fluid work so that they won't escape?
Also what about their ant bread? what temp would that have to be at? and the moisture level how would I regulate that and the temp?

Haha, they don't actually cook the bread in an oven or anything, its just the name for chewed up seeds with added enzymes. Temp should be between 22-26 degrees but some members have proof that they adapt to the colder temperatures. They like really dry conditions very little moisture is needed.
