Well they did indeed love the chicken and at one point I saw all 3 workers eating it at the end of the tube whilst the queen looked after the brood!

Sady one of the workers died yesterday which was a bit of a shame as it has been about 3 weeks without a death... However the other two seem fine and the larvae are now big enough to count (I make it around 20) ;D

The last of the old workers seems to have died now leaving the queen with a single worker which I'm guessing is the one that eclosed around a month ago. On the bright side the queen is looking great and tends her brood non stop. There is over 20 larvae mostly at a small size although one is double the size of the rest and is obviously getting a lot of attention, it could be lucky or it may be a larger caste than the others, only time will tell

Sadly the last worker died about a week ago although the queen seems fine. She has gone into hibernation with the rest of my Messor queens.

Hey,
Sadly this queen died a few weeks ago. She seemed to be making a comeback but then the larvae all died... They seemed to shrivel up almost over night. I do not think she fed them which is why they died. I hope to start a new Messor barbarus journal soon when I decide which of my current colonys I want to keep and move them into a proper set up.
