seems there reports of flying ants are a summer myth now. www.bbc.co.uk/nature/19963128But at least there tracking days there mating flights are about to start. At least we know about this factor ;D they say as well as others. One "very consistent" factor was found to be the time of day at which they emerged: normally between 4pm and 6pm.

One of the earlier L.niger flights I noticed this Summer took place at about 11am, the others were around 4-5pm (Including a Lasius flavus flight, I think they have theirs a bit later in the day).
