Ha Ha Hey guys , well here goes he he , Firstly Seasons greetings , hope you all have a great Christmas and new year. Right here we go . The Fungus garden has grown in size and now fills half of the acrylic sphere it resides in. The colony still take privet leaves with great enthusiasm and are also enjoying the slices of apple I give them. As of yet they stay true to the privet and will not touch any of the other plants which my other colony's in the past seemed to love. The Queen has been busy laying and this has become more evident with the increasing larva and pupae that are becoming visible bedded down in the fungus garden. I have watched the workers feeding the larva and its so interesting watching these young ants eating the white fluffy filaments of the fungus garden. Here's a few pics guys and of course one of my videos Hope you like guys Regards Adam

What do you use to make the transitions (fades and wipes) on your video Adam? I thought the video was very good, though I thought the monochrome didn't show the colony off as much as the colour later; and perhaps the wipes might be better spaced out more.

Hello Wood ant cheers , yes I agree it didn't show the ants of that nice but I think I was aiming for that. The footage was short clips from previous video footage and I wanted some kind of distinction between the new video and the heading if you get my meaning. ;D I also think next time I shall lenghten the wipes as I too think at times some were too short I shall tweak it abit for the next video and perhaps change the monochrome effect as want it to be sort of my run up to the actual video. Also yes to do my videos I use windows live movie maker, came with my PC so found it useful lol Regards Adam

Thanks Adam, I'm sure my laptop will have that programme as it is Windows 7. I have never used a PC prog for editing movies, as I usually load the video straight onto a DVD via my direct leads using my TV as a monitor. Must try it next time I have video of ants to upload to YouTube.

Hey Guys , well the ants have started the new year with great success and now a second fungus garden continues to grow in another acrylic sphere. The colonies population have grown allot and the fungus gardens are now embedded with a increasing number of brood. I have witnessed the queen laying eggs regularly and the ants are taking a varied diet of raisins , privet leaves, willow leaves and apple so the gardens have some variety until the lush new growth of spring leaves becomes available. Unfortunately there are no pictures or videos for now. Jewels my green wing macaw , got hold of my macro lens kit for my iphone and chewed the lenses to bits So will get some more. Regards Adam

Hello Messor , the ants take a wide variety of vegatation but will not take everything , each colony is different. They are easyish to keep but during the founding stage or when the colony is small they need abit more care. The fungus needs a nice warm temperture around 25 -26 c is ideal I find and humidity should be around 60-70% I find does very well. Heres a website that has a lot of imformation that I'm sure will help. www.sasionline.org/antsfiles/pages/atta/attacaptivity.html#table3&4Hope that helps , Regards Adam

Can you post a picture of your complete set up?
