Hi, I also use an antworld and am using the foraging pot that comes with it , as my colony only a small one, but as long as you can attach the tube to what you want then there is nothing stopping you attaching a bigger foraging area.

I might just use it as it comes then but maybe change the substrate it comes with, I think I'm trying to go to big to start with as they're only small ants .

It is L. Niger I have in mine and if your starting with a newly mated queen and a few workers, you will only see a couple of foragers, till the colony grows, I only had maybe 15 workers at start of February and the colony has grown a lot, but still only see 6 foragers at the most on a good day, the norm being 3, so the pot is more than a sufficient for now.

You can put a link in to show what soil you want to use, and I forgot to mention that I remove the inner plastic parts that are made to fit the stickers that come with the Ant World. These may make it nice for kids to look at, but by removing them it gives the ants more space to make a more natural nest. Only fill the inside to about 2/3rds with any soil or sand, as the ants can move a lot of this when digging and may eventually fill the set up with their nest.
I use a darker soil mix for red ants, and a paler one for black ants most of the time; and another thing worth mentioning is to keep the whole set up covered and in darkness when you're not viewing your ants, as although they may rush around a bit when exposed to light, in the wild they live in total darkness underground unless out hunting for food or mating flights. Because of this factor many ant species have poor eyesight, and some are blind having lost their eyes completely, as ants rely on more tactile senses such as touch and smell to find their way around.

Yeah it's for the Lasius Niger, I'll just use it as it comes then as it seems it's fine for now . www.queenantshop.co.uk/#/digging-mix-l-brown-med/4567716399 This is the Digging mix I was gonna get and use if this one is any good for them, I think this is the lightest one their is. Also the Front will be covered up probably all day until night or something, they will be out the way of bright lights anyway . I'm not sure what plastic parts you mean until I get it so I'll have to wait until it comes and then see.

That soil/sand mix should do fine, and you will know what the inner plastic parts for removing are when you get the set up Scott

Then once I got this I'll put my order in for some Lasius Niger and Some digging sand and possibly some other stuff too like food or honey water I think it is.
